***Emberassing Momment***
As I was growing up in grade school I would always keep a notebook with my personal feelings in it. Everyday I would write in it. At the time I really liked this boy and I would always write how sexy he was and how I loved his smile, eyes, hair, and fashion sense. Everybody liked him; I guess you could call him popular.
One day I lost my notebook in school and I was looked for it like a crazy person. As I walk in my class after lunch I saw that the boy that I liked at the time was reading it! I was so embarrassed because he looked at me so different and he showed his friends what I had written over the school year. As I took my notebook back I was so embarrassed that I almost ran out crying. My cheeks were so red and my face was in shock. As I was walking to sit on my desk he said to me “ I really like you too.” My smile on my face was so big I couldn’t hide it at all. Everyone stared at me and I tried not to look at him or her. Some girls were mad because they liked him too but I didn’t care because he liked me.
As the days went by we were getting close to Valentines Day, and I received a box of chocolates from an unknown person. I was so excited but as I was walking down the hall I saw him talking with a girl and then he kissed her. My heart at the time broke to pieces. All I could think of was how much I hated him for what he did. I threw my box of chocolates at him and walk away. He yells my name and tells me to wait. So I do as he says and he runs up to me and gives me a kiss too! I was so mad and I pushed him away from me. As the days went by I figured he liked a lot of girls and I stopped trying to be with him.
As I looked back to the situation I put myself in I just laugh at myself. That taught me not to leave personal notebooks lying around, especially in school. Now I wonder if this has happened to anybody else.
Modern Haiti
Taste of Salt A Story of Modern Haiti is a novel written by Frances Temple, and published in 1992. It is set in Haiti, and although most of the characters and events are fictional, the background is very real. For my Novel study class I will describe modern Haiti today. Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas according to the Human Development Index.(http://hdrstats.undp.org/en/countries/profiles/HTI.html) It has experienced political violence throughout its history.
Haiti, officially the Republic of Haiti is a Caribbean country. It occupies the western, smaller portion of the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antillean archipelago, which it shares with the Dominican Republic.
The total area of Haiti is 10,714 square miles with a population of 10,032,619 and its capital is Port-au-Prince. Haitian Creole and French are the official languages.
Haiti’s regional, historical, history is unique for several reasons. It was the first independent nation in Latin America and the first black-led republic in the world when it gained independence as part of a successful slave revolution in 1804. Despite having common cultural links with its Caribbean neighbors, Haiti is the only independent nation in the Americas. It is one of only two independent nations in the Americas that designate French as an official language; the other French speaking areas are all overseas. Haiti is actually a really nice place, if only we cared to make it a better place, everyone who lives there would appreciate it.
